About the Author

Born and raised in Shelby North Carolina, W. Clay Creswell is the youngest of 3 siblings, each with creative talents they inherited from their grandparents Warren Arnold and Marie Arnold. Clay has been writing poetry, song lyrics, and creative story telling for many years. His normal writing style is categorized as "creative and descriptive". With Sharks in the Shallows Attacks on the Carolina Coast, Creswell's book published by the University of South Carolina Press, his writing style shifts to a more direct, to the point, fact based description which is perfect for the science based collective that it is.

Clay has been a regional shark bite investigator with the Shark Research Institute's Global Shark Attack File since 2004 and has investigated over 100 shark/human related incidents in both North Carolina and South Carolina plus one in Texas. He has collaborated with shark experts, Police Officials, EMS and Firefighting staff, Search and Rescue Divers, Coroners, Military Personnel, and Shark Bite Victims and their Families, to gather as much precise data on current and historical shark bite incidents and encounters which have occurred in Carolina waters. The valuable studies on this information aid researchers in establishing patterns regarding shark attacks and shark behavior on a worldwide scale.
Clay has become a trusted source of information on shark attacks in the Carolinas for Red Rock Films, and The National Geographic Channel Series "When Sharks Attack". He is also a go to person for local media outlets for shark attack information.
